Warrensburg via the Northway, I-87, Exit 23

Go up the Northway, I-87 to Exit 23 on top of the mountain from Lake George. (US Route 9) Take US 9 north, a right turn, through Warrensburg all the way to NY Route 8: Southern Adirondack Trail: at the junction two miles north of Warrensburg. Take a left turn on NY 28, north-west, over the upper Hudson River and follow NY 28 to Indian Lake. NY 28 is a good, fast road that follows the upper Hudson River and has many fishing, rafting and swimming spots. In the Village of Indian Lake you will come to the junction of NY Route 8: Southern Adirondack Trail:.


Pottersville to NY 28N via the Northway, I-87, Exit 26

Go up the Northway, I-87 to Exit 26, Pottersville, north of the Hague exit. Turn left or west and get on US 9 North and go about a quarter mile into Pottersville's downtown and go left at the junction on Warren County Route 18 to Olmsteadville. When you get to Olmsteadville, you will have crossed into Essex County and the road will be CR 29. At the stop with the flashing red, turn right or west towards Minerva if you are Long Lake, or west bound. Go straight and follow the signs to NY 28N if you want to head south-east to North Creek, where you can pick up our NY 28. Past the hamlet of Minerva north-west to Long Lake, there is a series of steep climbs and hard bends. You'll cross the Boreas Creek and the old rail line. Then, after the steep hills, you'll come to Newcomb, a big resort town and the start of the Hudson River. The road will be much flatter and faster in and after the Newcomb portion, but with tons of frost heaves, so watch it! After Newcomb's 45 MPH zone, 5 miles long, you'll go past the Whitney Stand and the experimental environmental area. Soon, you'll come to Long Lake and Hamilton County after crossing the Northville-Lake Placid Trail. In Long Lake, you stop and go straight on NY 28N & 30 to NY Route 8: Southern Adirondack Trail: West in Blue Mountain Lake. This route is not recommended for trucks or bad weather, it is very challenging and a lonely piece of road at night or in a storm.


Via NY 30, Specualtor, Indian Lake

You can get to NY 30, from the east along NY 5 or I-90, NYS Thruway by going to Exit 27 in Amsterdam. The road the exit is on is NY Route 30. Head north or right for about 80 miles to NY 28. You'll go through the City & Town of Amsterdam. Once into Fulton County, about 10 miles north, the speed limit will be 55 mph except in Vails Mill, Mayfield, Wells, Speculator Center and the last stretch before the junction with NY 28 in Indian Lake Hamlet. NY 30 is the best road in the 'Daks and you should check out the other website.

From the west on the NYS Thruway, I-90, get off at Fonda - Fultonville Exit 28. You'll pick up NY Route 30A. Take NY 30A north through the twin villages towards Johnstown & Gloversville, up the big hill. Past Gloversville, you'll come to Mayfield. At the flashing yellow light, NY 30A ends and the road is now NY Route 30. Follow NY 30 for about 60 miles to Indian Lake, where you can pick up 28. Also, north of Wells on NY 30, you can access NY 28 in the Gore- North Creek area by taking a right on NY 8 North and heading to Wevertown.
